London, Team-Ausflug / London, Team Day Out -- 01.05.2015

Im Vertrieb geht's ja bekanntlich sehr wettbewerblich zu, ist in meinem aktuellen Job genauso. Seit ich dort Ende Juli 2014 angefangen hab, wurde jedes Quartal (also alle 3 Monate) das stärkste Team belohnt mit einem recht beeindruckenden Zuschuss, welchen das Team verwenden darf, wie es will. Im letzten Quartal 2014 hat mein Team gewonnen und am 1. Mai 2015 haben wir unsere Belohnung "eingetütet". Die Kollegen aus Mailand (Italien) und Cork (Irland) sind extra eingeflogen und dann sind wir alle gemeinsam nach London gefahren und haben dort einen ganzen Tag verbracht. Der gute Petrus hat es auch gut mit uns gemeint, und entsprechend genial war der Tag dann auch.

Zunächst ging es zur britischen Garde-Kavallerie. Die meisten Touris kennen ja die berittenen Gardisten vor Buckhingham Palace, doch wir durften hinter die Kulissen schauen. Mein Chef war früher nämlich bei der Garde (ich vergesse immer ob es die Blues oder die Royals waren XD ) und hat noch immer Kontakte dorthin. Entsprechend bekamen wir Sonderbesuchsrechte und durften zusehen, was für ein Prozedere es ist, bis so eine Garde ausrittsfertig ist, dass selbst ein beendeter Ausritt nicht einfach nur mal so beendet wird, sondern ebenfalls ne ziemliche Prozedur ist. Doch damit nicht genug, wir durften noch mehr sehen, so z.B. die Sattlerei und die Ställe der Pferde. Ich persönlich fands hochinteressant und war definitiv mal was anderes.

It's common knowledge that Sales is a very competitive job, and my current job is therefore no different. Ever since I started there end of July 2014, every single quarter (which means every 3 months), the best performing team got a really nice reward in the form of a considerable money amount which the team can spend however they choose. In the last quarter of 2014 my team won and on 1st of May 2015 we "cashed in" our reward. All colleagues flew in from Milan (Italy) and Cork (Ireland) and then we all went off to London to spend a whole day there. The weather was really lovely, and the entire day was truly amazing.

Our first stop was at the Household Cavalry. Most tourists know the guards on their horses in front of Buckingham Palace, but we were allowed to take a peek behind the scenes. My boss used to be a Guard (I keep forgetting whether it was the Blues or the Royals though XD ) and still has connections to the Cavalry. Which is why we get special passes and had the priviledge of watching the whole process of getting a Guard on horses ready, but we also got to experience that even when the Guards return, it's not just a matter of simply dismounting the horses, oh no, even that is an entire process which needs to be performed meticulously. But that wasn't everything we got to see, we were also taken to the stables and the saddlery. Personally I found it all very fascinating and this was definitely something entirely different to see.

Wir verbrachten den ganzen Vormittag bei der Garde, und da der Ausgang direkt bei Hyde Park war, haben wir dort mittags gepicknickt. In typischer Manier mit Pizza *grins*. Und Respekt an den Pizzaboten, denn just in dem Moment als wir aus den Toren der Garde rausmarschierten, kam der auf seiner Vespa angetuckert. Mit den Pizzakartons bewaffnet haben wir uns dann Richtung See gemacht und uns dort dann gestärkt. Da ein ziemlicher Wind aufzog und wir noch Zeit hatten bis zu unserem nächsten Ausflug, haben wir uns in einen nahegelegenen Pub verzogen, Frühschoppen quasi ;)

Kurz darauf ging es dann aber doch schon weiter, zu den sog. Duck Tours. Eine Sightseeing-Tour durch London mit einem Amphibien-Fahrzeug, sprich, wir sind auch IN die Themse reingefahren und dort dann etwas rumgeschippert. Ist auch mal was anderes und kann man durchaus mal gemacht haben.

We spent all morning with the Cavalry and given the exit is right by Hyde Park, we had our picnic lunch there. Typically for us, with pizza *grins*. And I have to say, massive kudos to the delivery guy, because exactly in the moment that we went through the gates of the Cavalry, he arrived on his little vespa. Once we had all the pizza boxes we went over to the nearby lake and devoured them there. But as quite a wind was blowing around our noses and we still had some time to our next agenda point, we fled into a nearby pub, very British ;)

Shortly after though we moved on to the so called Duck Tours. A sight seeing tour through London with an amphibian vehicle, which means we also drove straight INTO the Thames and floated around a bit. Which is something different, I gotta say.

Rückkehr an Land / Getting back on shore

Nach dem etwas feuchten Ausflug ging es auf in höhere Gefilde, zum London Eye. Leider haben wir nicht alle in eine Kabine gepasst, hat aber dem Spaß trotzdem keinen Abbruch getan.

After the somewhat wet excursion we moved on straight to our next stop, the London Eye. Unfortunately we didn't all fit into one cabin, but that didn't diminish the fun aspect at all.

Inzwischen war es bereits Nachmittag und wir hatten noch etwas Zeit bis zu unserem letzten Ausflugsziel. Da wir ein internationales Team sind, merkte einer meiner holländischen Kollegen an, dass wir in der Nähe einer sehr guten holländischen Bar seien. Also sind wir dorthin marschiert. Ja, es war durchaus schon seit mittags in dem Pub ein feuchtfröhlicher Ausflug ;)

Als es dann Abend wurde, ging es ab zur Ice Bar. Der Name ist Programm, wie die Bilder zeigen werden. Nachdem die Geister dort etwas erfrischt wurden, haben wir es uns dort dann im Restaurant gemütlich gemacht und ein 3-Gänge-Abendessen genießen dürfen, welches den Abschluss des Team-Ausfluges darstellte.

In the meantime afternoon had come and we had a little bit of time until our final destination. Given we are an international team, one of my Dutch colleagues mentioned we were quite close a really great Dutch bar. So that's where we went to. Yes, since midday at the pub it had been a very jolly excursion ;)

When it turned evening we moved on to the Ice Bar. The name says it all, as the pictures will show. After we were refreshed, we then settled in the adjacent restaurant, where we got to enjoy a 3-course dinner, which finalised our Team Day Out.

Zum Abschluss möchte ich noch sagen, dass es ein wirklich wunderschöner Tag war. Das Team in dem ich bin, ist einfach klasse, oder wie unser Chef uns immer so liebevoll nennt, das "A-Team" :)
